Role of Bengal Technical Institute in the development of technology in Bengal:- Bengal Technical Institute was established on July 25, 1906, with the efforts of Taraknath Palit.  The purpose of its establishment was to promote technical education among the people of Bengal.  It was established along with the National Council of Education.  It wanted to promote technical education among the school students of Bengal so that technology could be developed along with science.  Initially, the Bengal Technical Institute and the National Council of Education were opposed to each other.  But in 1910, both these institutions got mixed.  In 1921, these joint institutions arranged for the first time in India to provide education on the subject of Chemical Engineering.  By 1940, this institution started functioning as an independent university.  After independence, after passing the Jadavpur University Act in 1955, it was renamed Jadavpur University.
