WB Madhyamik 2018

Ans.

. Serampore Mission Press: Shrirampur Mission Press was established in Shrirampur on January 10, 1800, by the missionaries like William Carey, William Ward, Joshua Marshman, etc.  In the same year, the Bengali version of the Bible was published by this press in the month of August.  This press published about 212,000 books between 1800 and 1832 AD.  The books published by him made the British government apprehensive about the work of the missionaries.  This press translated Christian scriptures, Indian literature, and Bibles into 25 Indian and other South Asian languages.  The important role of this press was in the printing of indigenous textbooks.  This press published grammar, dictionaries, history, and moral stories for Fort William College and the Calcutta School Book Society.  In 1818 AD this press started publishing the first Bengali newspaper and magazine.  This press published books in about 45 languages.
