Meerut Conspiracy Case – On March 20, 1929, the government arrested 31 communists from across the country and the Meerut Conspiracy Case was launched against them.  This case went on for 3/, years.  About half of these were nationalists or trade unionists.  During the trials, the communists declared that they were revolutionaries and that they wanted to end a British Empire in India.  During the trial, Muzaffar Ahmed said – “I am a revolutionary communist, our party adheres to the program principles and policies of Communist Internationals and gives full publicity to them as far as the circumstances permit.” The Congress executive gave a central focus to his trial.  Security Committee was formed. In this case, people like Jawaharlal Nehru, Kailash Nath Katju and Dr. F. Ansari appeared on behalf of the respondent. The British government declared the Indian Communist Party illegal on July, 1934. Meerut.  The verdict of the conspiracy case was pronounced on January 16, 1933. The 27 accused were given severe punishment. Muzaffar Ahmed was given the biggest and most severe punishment, under which he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
